Hi everyone. It's been a while since I posted a new smoothie recipe, mainly because I stick to a regular green smoothie most days. However lately I've been having this smoothie a couple of times a weeek. I'm not crazy about regular matcha green tea, so instead I add the matcha powder to smoothies and this is my favourite recipe.
Matcha tea is a powdered green tea. I use the Koyu brand which is 100% organic Japanese matcha tea; this isn't a sponsored post, I just want to share with you the brand I am most familiar with. It claims to give you an energy boost of 3-6 hours and has 137 times the antioxidants of regular steeped green tea. I use just 1/2 teaspoon per day as I find this plenty for me. I also like to drink matcha in the morning, as a bit like coffee, it can keep you awake if you drink it before bedtime.
Matcha is a little on the expensive side with it costing about 30 euro for a month's supply, working out at a one euro a day habit which isn't really all that bad when you consider the price of buying a coffee, a drink or even cigarettes on a daily basis.
As matca is quite a strong taste, I have paired it with raw cacao in this smoothie so the primary flavour is chocolate as opposed to green tea :) Adding raw cacao also boosts the antioxidant levels in this smoothie as it is
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups of almond milk
1/2 tsp of matcha green tea powder
2 dates, pitted
2 tbsp 1 tsp vanilla
2 tbsp raw cacao powder
1 banana
Lemon juice
Method:
Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. This smoothie is best drank immediately but it will keep in the fridge for up to 24 hours; just shake it before drinking.
