Recipe: Banana, Almond Butter and Cinnamon Smoothie

Happy Friday folks. I was so thankful to wake up this morning to blue skies. I never really thought I suffered from seasonal affected disorder until this July when every day was a different shade of grey. Today's smoothie is really creamy and delicious and perfect for before you hit the gym or go for your morning run. It is made from banana, almonds (in the form of almond butter and almond milk), cinnamon and hemp seeds and so contains a good amount of protein and omega-3 fatty acids. Cinnamon is understood to help to lower blood sugar levels and stable blood sugar levels are great for our health in general, but also help to maintain consistent energy levels, helping to avoid sugar highs and lows. Hemp seeds are a complete source of plant based proteins containing all nine essential amino acids.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups of almond milk
2 tablespoons of almond butter
1 banana
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
2 teaspoons of hemp seeds
Method:
Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a glass and serve immediately.
This smoothie is also beautiful served over ice for a refreshing drink on a hot day.
