When people try green smoothies for the first time they can be quite the taste ordeal. The smoothies we grew up drinking were more milkshake than smoothie, more dessert than healthy breakfast. I always associated smoothies with sweetness and light and not salad leaves and the taste of grass. But now, I am so used to drinking green smoothies, that I have graduated to hard core greenness. However the odd day when I want my green smoothies a little sweeter and tastier, I opt for something along the lines of this smoothie that I have christened my Almondtastic Green Smoothie. This smoothie is perfect for those starting out on green smoothies, especially if you are a fan of almonds, as it quite creamy and relatively sweet.

The ingredients are spinach for your greens, an apple for sweetness, almond milk as the liquid, almond butter for lovely creamy goodness and half a banana for thickness. I also add chia seeds to supercharge it for a nutritional boost. If you don't like bananas or find them too sweet, you can just leave it out.

Ingredients:

1 large mug of baby spinach leaves

1 apple

1/2 banana

1 tablespoon of almond butter

1 large mug of almond milk (unsweetened)

2 teaspoons of chia seeds

Method:

Blend all ingredients together until they are broken down into a smoothie. The time it takes to blend will depend on the strength of your blender. I use a Vitamix so it doesn't take too long. If you have a low strength blender you may need to add more almond milk to get a smoothie consistency. I find higher strength blenders tend to blend solids a little better. If you don't have a high powdered blender, this is no big deal - it just means you might have to blend for a little bit longer. You can also play around with your quantities a little to achieve your preferred smoothie consistency.

Enjoy xx
